Once again, McKinley Children’s Center made the holiday wishes of over 600 boys and girls come true this holiday season through their annual Toys N Joys toy drive. Thousands of people signed up to be on Santa’s team of elves and thanks to their efforts, each child in McKinley’s care woke up on Christmas morning to gifts including soccer balls, art supplies, play kitchens, and bicycles from Santa just for them!
In the early fall, the community came together and signed up to join Santa’s team of elves, they quickly went to work shopping and toy donations began rolling in after Thanksgiving. On December 14th, Southern California Edison came out to McKinley’s campus to make an extra special delivery! Edison filled the wishes of 275 children and in true Christmas spirit, showed up to deliver the packages to McKinley’s campus in four of their utility trucks. Once the trucks rolled up, over 20 Edison staff; decked out in Elf and Santa hats; along with members of McKinley’s Executive team and Board of Directors went to work unloading gifts and preparing them for delivery to children in foster and residential care.
Saint Louise de Marillac Church and School once again made this holiday season a magical one for the children in our care. As they’ve done for over ten years, the church decorated a tree with ornaments bearing a child’s name and gift card wish lists for parishioners and students to pick from. This year the staff, students, and parishioners of St. Louise made a huge difference in the toy drive and filled the gift card wishes of 400 children.
When children come to McKinley Children’s Center they have often been victims of abuse, neglect, or an unstable and unhealthy family environment. Many of the children in McKinley’s care have never experienced the joy of the holiday season and the hope of a new year. “Many of these children have never received a present before, so this is very special to us” said McKinley CEO Anil Vadaparty.
McKinley Children’s Center would like to thank all of its donors who supported the annual toy drive. Donors included many individual donors such as the Stern Family as well as local companies and organizations: Biosense Webster, Cal Portland, Christ Lutheran School, Continental, Coldwell Banking, Fleetwood Fibre, Gilead, Hope Lutheran School, KB home, Kim Lighting, Klatch Coffee, Louis Vuitton, PCV Murcor, San Dimas Community Hospital, San Marino Cub Scouts-Pack 354, St. Louise de Marillac Church, Suzanne Middle School, and Southern California Edison.
